Chant Premier :
Étude en Heure Bleue
1. La Plaine des Asphodèles is a place in the underworld in Greek mythology. The asphodel is also a hermaphrodite plant.
2. L’heure bleue refers to that suspended moment when we lose ourselves for a few minutes, no longer knowing whether it’s daybreak or nightfall. The sky is a deep, delicate blue; the contours are blurred, fluid.
I am thinking of Novalis’s unfinished novel Henry of Ofterdingen (Heinrich von Ofterdingen, published after his death in 1802), bathed in blue, blue as the symbol of fundamental unity. Novalis begins with an account of a dream in which a blue flower appears, turning Henry’s life upside down...
Solitudes d’un funambule dans un champ d’asphodèles¹ is a project composed of several chapters called Chants (Songs). Each Chant proposes a universe, outlining a space inhabited by a character.
Chant premier : Étude en Heure Bleue²
(installation varies according to the venue).
This first song focuses on the androgynous figure. The space of time in which it evolves is the blue hour, that in-between moment of metamorphosis. Chromatic palette of blue. References to ancient Greek theatre; the rebound and questioning of the icon, the image and the creation of the image, the use of reproduction tools placed in the installation, framing ; the incredible ‘beauty’ of this young person, the fascination they produce,
narcissus appears, or at least his reflection, at the bend of a screen-printed mirror in judiciously placed gradation, its disappearance, what remains of it. As we wander through the immersive installation, we perceive the connection between the elements. History is being written.
Soundtracks punctuate the approach: a melody that seems perpetually interrupted, silences of varying length. Echoing water accentuates the disquieting strangeness that emerges.
